The Slow Show from Manchester makes melancholic Britpop with dark layers of roots, folk and country. At first glance, their moving lyrics seem to be layered over minimal and subtle compositions. On stage, The Slow Show honors their band name when they build their music into richly detailed songs of epic proportions. The band’s new, third studio album will be released this year.
Alone, together with his violinist or backed by his band, YVI sets aside ego, leaving nothing but pure, disarming honesty. YVI writes melancholic, though comforting storytelling songs about insecurity, doubt and grief. His voice and songs might sound like Damien Rice and Glen Hansard, whereas the band arrangements are inspired by the sound of Bon Iver and Elbow.
In 2015, YVI was chosen as ‘the best singer-songwriter of the Northern Netherlands’, after which he supported Dutch acts such as Douwe Bob and Blaudzun. In 2016, YVI did a livingroomconcert tour. After that, it was the perfect time to record his debut album, which he did in the ‘Coot Studio’ (run by fellow YVI-musician Lendert Andel). The album will be released late 2019. In 2017 YVI was selected for ‘de Grote Prijs van Nederland’, a very prestigious bandcontest, where they made it till the semi-finals. In 2018 YVI gets selected for Popronde.
