This is the sixth year for Bruis. Every year, thousands of people visit the only pop festival of this category in Maastricht.

The festival was brought to life in 2007, as an initiative of de Muziekgieterij. People joined forces with the Mondiaal Centrum, which organized the festival “Welcome to Maastricht.” By cooperating, both parties were able to offer a wide variation of acts, combining world music and a world market with pop music. The first edition was on 2 September 2007 and it was a big succes, not in the least because of headliner Viva La Fête. About 6000 visitors found their way to the market.

In 2008, the story continued with the same enthusiasm. On 24 August, all music lovers reassembled at the market. Old and young alike watched Arno and Goose, and everyone enjoyed the festival atmosphere created by the world market and the world stages. Throughout the day, about 12.000 people visited the festival.

The third edition meant expansion: the festival now lasted two days, thanks to a collaboration with the Global Culture Festival of Studium Generale. On saturday, big bands in the world music genre could be seen on stage. The day after, the party continued with among others Emiliana Torrini. About 12.000 people visited the two-day festival.

Bruis 2010 continued with the original intention: a festival for young and old where local and new bands can be discovered, where you can find a mixture of wonderful cultures and with big bands that have never played on stage in Maastricht before. Once again, there were two days filled with pop music, with headliners Absynthe Minded, dEUS and Babylon Circus.

2011 was a small anniversary for Bruis. On a new terrain (sport terrain at de Koompe) Bruis entered a new dimension. The bands: Crystal Fighters, Daan, De Staat and Black Box Revelation – and a lot more. We also added some new stages. The Bubble Stage, for young local talent alternated the bands on the main stage, offered a great platform for pop music from Maastricht. Hiphop is also huge in Maastricht, and the Urban Area goes to show for it.

In 2012, Bruis has earned a solid and permanent place in the cultural festivities of the city of Maastricht.
